Highly active predator known for its aggressive strikes and strong fighting ability.

Young fish and adults have 8-9 brown-ash gray bars on their upper half, which are sometimes dark in larger fish with dark fins.

Faint dark spots may appear on the flanks in younger individuals. Two dorsal fins separated by a small gap; caudal fin deeply forked. A powerful predator that feeds primarily on schooling baitfish and is highly prized in sport fishing for its speed and aggressive runs.
